On Wednesday 7 September Ellis Ginn and Nick Dougan of Edge-Safe were delighted to attend R B Health & Safety Solution’s excellent launch event for their new 5 day, IOSH-accredited course in Managing Safely for Theatre and Production. This is the first customised course of its type for the theatre sector, and looks like it will be as entertaining as well as educational a course as you can get in this subject.

Given the rather dry nature of the health & safety planning, that’s quite an achievement. We particularly liked Andy Willard’s excellent cartoons of theatre “avatars” that are used throughout the training course.

It was also great to meet Steve Granger, President of IOSH, Roger Hamilton-Smith of Heightec, and many other of those who take responsibility for, or provide expert advice on, Health & Safety in Theatreland.

Theatre safety is a broad area. Edge-Safe helps to deal with one specific aspect of it – the safety issues arising from working at the stage edge, whether during a performance or during fit-up. We’re always happy to talk to those with more general responsibilities to see whether Edge-Safe can help them improve their risk management in our specific area.
